Firstly what is it? Alcohol is a consumable liquid in the form of beer, wines, spirits, premixed drinks, cocktails. Alcohol is an addictive substance; it is used in many social occasions and non social occasions and for all types of reasons.

When a person drinks alcohol, the alcohol that is consumed is absorbed by the body via the stomach and then to the bloodstream which disports into the tissues. The effects of alcohol are dependent on a variety of factors such as person’s age, sex, weight, genetics and as well as the amount of food and or alcohol consumed.

Low doses of alcohol when consumed can affect a person’s mechanical as well as judgment skills; it can cause dizziness, short of breath, slurred speech, vomiting, hallucinations and bad coordination and judgment which makes that person a danger on the roads and general public safety.

Long term alcohol can have an addictive effect called alcoholism, which basically means that person is addicted to drinking heavily on a long term basis. Long term effects of consuming large amounts of alcohol can have some serious effects on one’s health and general well being. Such effects caused are withdrawal symptoms which include severe anxiety, tremors, and hallucinations. There are many more combined effects that people experience and they can be very detrimental to your health in addition to this if you are already in bad health it can effect certain parts of the body such as the liver, brain, certain muscles. For women who are pregnant it can be detrimental to their own health as well as putting their unborn child at risk, these infants may suffer from retardation and other mental incapability due to the amount of alcohol a mother consumes. Generally it is advised by health experts, doctors that alcohol should not be consumed while pregnant.

Consuming alcohol can be controlled to a point where one does not have to depend on it on a continual basis. Drinking moderately, safely and with the intent to have it without abusing it to a point where one has a dependency or a contingency to go back to their old drinking habits.  Alcohol can be controlled to the point where the individual can consume it in a safe and controlled manner. This actually requires a lot of dedication and understanding to combat the alcohol addiction and especially for prolonged users who consume large amounts of alcohol; they need special attention and help.
