Quit Smoking
Smoking tobacco or commonly known in the form of cigarettes or cigars is an addictive substance, that kills thousands and thousands of people. Smoking is not only dangerous to the individual who consumes the smoke but it is also equally as dangerous if a non-smoker is exposed to those deadly chemicals. Tobacco, a strong poison, is the most addictive of all drugs. It stimulates the same areas of the brain as cocaine and amphetamines, and tolerance to nicotine develops faster and stronger than to cocaine or heroin. Neurochemically, the body adapts to the toxins in tobacco a few hours after smoking. Soon smoking becomes necessary to feel "normal". Smoking tobacco is an addiction, combined deadly chemicals, a drug substance, an abusive substance.Second-hand Smoking
By smoking cigarettes you hurt others by exposing those deadly chemicals in to the air people breathe. Tobacco smoke is a serious threat to the health of nonsmokers. Smoke in the air from others' cigarettes contains toxic chemicals including tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, arsenic and cyanide. Nonsmokers who breathe it absorb these substances and are at risk for the same serious health consequences as smokers.Cigarrette smoking facts
The sad fact is, smoking is one of the biggest killers amongst other habit related diseases and there are far too many people who are dying from smoking. The general perception about smoking is that it is a trend or a stress buster, well in actual fact it is neither of those, and it is not a trend because of the many associated risks associated with it. As a stress buster you may want to think again, putting a cigarette in your mouth isn’t going to solve your problems, it is going to give you more problems and stress in the long term. It is the brain that is tricked, thinking that it curing or overcoming and managing your stress by taking a few puffs of a cigarette. Some people do not even know why they are smoking; they are just impulsive smokers with no regular thought pattern as to why they are even smoking in the first place. One thing that comes to mind when talking about ‘smoking’ that is, the health of your respiratory system, the fact that smoking increases the risk of death from lung cancer by more than twenty two times and from bronchitis and emphysema by nearly ten times. Some of the common health risks associated with smoking tobacco is cancer; lungs, mouth, throat, esophagus and more, Chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, stroke, heart disease. There are many more other diseases to list that are associated with smoking tobacco, but as you can see, smoking is by no means a light substance, in fact it is a deadly substance that is often overlooked. For those who think smoking double filtered or lighter cigarettes is healthier is totally wrong, it equally has the dangerous effects as normal tobacco.
How Do Smokers Perceive Their Risks?
• In developing countries, many smokers are unaware of the risks of tobacco use. Even in developed countries, smokers and the population in general are unaware of many of the risks of smoking. Smokers tend to underestimate the risk of smoking to their health or fail to identify the risks associated with smoking.• Most smokers are unable to name a disease other than lung cancer that is caused by smoking, and most smokers rate their own chance of developing a smoking-related disease as less than, equal to, or only slightly greater than "the average person." Most smokers are unaware that smoking causes more deaths than car accidents.
• Many smokers think "Low tar", “Double filtered” cigarettes reduce their risk of illness from smoking, but studies show that these cigarettes are just as harmful as regular cigarettes because smokers smoke them differently to get more nicotine and, as a consequence, induce more tar into the lungs.
What are the Actual Risks to Smokers?
• Developing a respiratory problem or long term health related disease such as cancer, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gangrene, and may contribute to sexual impotence
• Long-term smokers have a 50% chance of dying from a tobacco-related disease. Of these deaths, about one-half will occur in middle age (between the ages of 35-69).
• Data from developed countries indicate that tobacco use is responsible for approximately one third of all heart disease deaths and one third of all cancer deaths. Most tobacco-caused deaths are due to heart disease.
• Lung cancer is increasing among women in many developing countries. lung cancer now surpasses breast cancer as the leading cancer killer of women.
What are the Risks to Non-Smokers?
• Exposure of non-smokers to second-hand smoke increases the risk of lung cancer and heart disease.• Second-hand smoke causes or worsens numerous illnesses in children, including asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, and middle ear infections.
• Smoking by or around pregnant women impedes development of the fetus, leads to low birth weight and premature babies, and may slow childhood development.
• Smoking around newborns is associated with increased rates of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (crib death).
